Head Quarter A 643 Hongkong, 17th January, 1880.

I have the honour to forward for Your Excellency's information a copy of a letter from the Inspector General of Fortifications dated 17th November, 1879, in which it is directed that the cost of transport of Stores for the works of Defence is to be charged to Colonial Funds.

It will be seen that the amount charged for transport up to the present time is £3,691.1.11 and I have the honour to request that Your Excellency will be pleased to give such instructions as will enable the Commanding Royal Engineer to recover the above amount and credit it to Naval funds, as directed.

His Excellency M. D. Marsh, CMG.
